It’s so hard to decide what floor coverings to choose when building a new home. Do I go with carpet, hardwood floors, floating floors, tiles or a mix of the above?! Each have their benefits and at the end of the day it all comes down to how you use your home & what is going to suit your needs the most.

Benefits of having tiles:

Tiles aren’t for everyone but here are a few reasons why they may be a good option for you:

Tiles are hard-wearing & will last a long time especially if you pick something in a neutral colour that wont date
Tiles are easy to clean – much easier to clean red wine off tiles than it is off carpet that’s for sure!
Tiles generally wont scratch like floating floors tend to do meaning they will look great for longer.

It is often cheaper to organise your own tiles and tiling contractor for after handover rather than go through your builder. This also allows you to make sure you are selecting a tiler who will give you a quality job. We tend to book up well in advance though so make sure you book in well before handover to ensure you don’t miss out!

When tiling your bathroom, kitchen or living room it is important to think about your lifestyle in that space. Do you have kids who may spill food on the floor or inside pets who might stamp muddy paw prints everywhere? In this case you would want to choose a hardier tile that will withstand lots of wear and tear. This also needs to be considered on high usage areas such as the kitchen splash back where we often see grime build up in grout joints. If you want to save yourself on cleaning, choosing a large tile, which in turn means less grout lines, will save you all of that hard work scrubbing in between tiles!

CREATING A GREAT SPACE

Then comes the very important question how do you want the tiling to impact on the way the space feels? If you want to create a living room that feels expansive and fresh, choosing a large, light coloured tile will help you achieve this.
